Gritties are variants of 
Polties found in 
Ashpit that pop up from beneath the ashy ground. Unlike their counterparts they will not pick up obstacles, instead flying towards any 
Rock Balls in the room to pick them up and throw them at Isaac, creating different effects depending on the type of rock thrown:
- Regular Rock Balls will deal damage to Isaac if they collide with him while they are flying.
Tumbleweeds can be thrown, but will not deal any damage to Isaac.
Lava Rock Ball will be destroyed on impact with the ground after being thrown, sending 4 lines of fire in the cardinal directions.
Singe's Balls can commonly appear in rooms with Gritties, and Gritties will throw them like Rock Balls at Isaac.
Gold Rock Balls will be ignored by Gritties until they are the last remaining option in the room. Upon picking one up, Gritties have a 50/50 chance to either throw it at Isaac (which will break open the Gold Rock Ball after it lands to spawn some 
Coins) or try to fly away with it and leave the room.
If all Rock Balls in the room are destroyed, any remaining Gritties will fly off screen.
Notes
- They can pick up and throw the football spawned by
SOCCER as it is considered a type of Rock Ball. However, it will not deal any damage to Isaac.
- This, in effect, breaks the rules of Soccer.
