Gamper

Gampers are dog-like enemies found in Gehenna that spawn chained to a peg, and cannot travel past the length of its chain. Gampers are invulnerable and will hop around randomly, periodically lunging towards Isaac if he is close enough. Their pegs, however, are vulnerable and once the peg takes 17 damage, it gets pulled out of the ground, revealing a heart attached to it.
Once the heart, referred to as Gamper Guts is freed, it will try to scoot away from Isaac but will be pulled along by the Gamper as it will now constantly lunge after Isaac. Killing the heart kills the attached Gamper. Gamper Guts themselves are harmless and do not deal contact damage.
Note
- Multiple Gampers may be chained to the same peg. The peg does not have increased health, and destroying it will kill all Gampers linked to it.
- The length of a Gamper's chain, as well as the amount of Gampers attached to a peg, is determined by the room layout.
- Gampers can still be killed using effects such as
Chaos Card and
Euthanasia. If all Gampers attached to an exposed Gamper Guts are killed, the heart will scoot away from Isaac as usual.
Trivia
- Gampers were added in The Monthiversary Update.
- Its design and method of being defeated is a reference to the Chain Chomps enemies from the Super Mario Bros series.
- The noises they make are sampled from Crunches, an enemy from the game The End is Nigh.
