Spiders
Spiders are arachnid enemies that can be commonly found in most chapters. They move quickly and erratically, making them unpredictable.
This page is about Spiders added in Fiend Folio. More information about Spiders in general can be found in the vanilla page.
Baby Spider
Baby Spiders are tiny Spiders that deal no contact damage and only serve to act as a hindrance by blocking Isaac's tears and lightly nudging him as they run into him. They can be killed at the slightest bit of damage, and can even be stepped on to instantly kill them. They are immune to and cannot be affected by various item effects and status effects.
Baby Spiders do not need to be killed in order to clear a room.
Full Spider
Full Spiders are the Full Fly counterpart to Spiders. They behave like
Level 2 Spiders but explode into a ring of 6 projectiles on death.
Globulon
Globulons slowly skitter around the room while generally trying to avoid Isaac, periodically spitting tiny Bubbles towards him if he is too close. If Isaac is far enough away, a Globulon will stop in place and begin gulping up water to blow a
Large Watery Bubble to push it towards Isaac when complete. It can repeat this 1-2 more times if not disturbed before skittering to a new location and making more Bubbles. Getting close to a Globulon or damaging it while it is in the process of filling a bubble will cause it to flinch and hop a short distance away, before releasing the Watery Bubble in the current size that it reached.
Oralid
Oralids are spidery teeth generally encountered only in Corpse. They spawn rooted into the ground and can either uproot themselves immediately once Isaac enters the room, or remain in their rooted state until Isaac gets close or once they are attacked. Once active, Oralids will constantly skitter towards Isaac.
Oralopede
Oralopedes are giant Oralids encountered only in Corpse. They spawn rooted into the ground, usually alongside a number of Oralids, and can either uproot themselves immediately once Isaac enters the room, or remain in their rooted state until Isaac gets close or once they are attacked. Once awake, Oralopedes will constantly chase Isaac, with all the Oralids that it spawned with waking up and trailing along with it. Oralopedes will occasionally perform one of two attacks based on the number of Oralids it has:
- While an Oralopede has less than 2 Oralids in its pack, it will jump a short distance towards Isaac to bury itself and spawn 3 buried Oralids beside it in the process. Shortly after it will uproot itself again and force the surrounding Oralids to do the same.
- If an Oralopede has 3 or more Oralids in its pack, it will roar to set all of them free to chase Isaac. The Oralids will return back to the Oralopede after a few moments.
If an Oralopede is killed, its pack of Oralids will chase after Isaac.
Quitter
Quitters are large toothy spiders found exclusively in Corpse which quickly skitter around erratically and will try to stay away from Isaac. If a Quitter is close to any projectiles, including Isaac's tears and those shot by other enemies, then the Quitter will begin inhaling for a few moments, sucking in all nearby projectiles. It is invulnerable to regular tear damage while inhaling. Afterwards, it will then chew for a moment before spitting a projectile cluster towards Isaac. The cluster will burst upon colliding with a wall or obstacle and release a spread of projectiles in the opposite direction. The size of the cluster and the amount of projectiles released is equal to the amount of projectiles it inhaled.
A Quitter has a limit to the amount of projectiles it can inhale; this is indicated by a "ticking" sound effect which plays as it inhales projectiles. After 8 "ticks", the Quitter will immediately stop inhaling and begin chewing. If a Quitter did not suck in any projectiles at all, it will return to skittering.
Quitters will also suck in nearby Small Maggots,
Spiders, and
Toma Chunks and spit them out as separate clusters alongside each other. Small Maggots and Spiders will be released upon the cluster bursting, while Toma Chunks will be destroyed, spawning Spiders and sending out tooth projectiles. Any of the clusters created by monsters can be damaged and destroyed in mid-air.
Notes
- Although the spat-out projectiles will have similar appearances and sizes to the projectiles sucked in, they will not have their previous attributes (e.g. spectral tears will not float through rocks).
- A Quitter's projectiles may deal a whole heart of damage, depending on the size of Isaac's tears and enemy projectiles it has inhaled. This is usually unnoticeable unless spawned manually outside of Corpse.
Trivia
- Full Spiders originate from the Reheated spritesheet and were added as a joke, but were eventually put into some rooms.
Slinger can spawn unique Oralids that are a pearly white color.
- Oralid, Oralopede, and Quitter were all originally from the unreleased Morbus MOD.
- Quitter's name and attack pattern is a reference to an infamous phrase, "spitters are quitters"; the "spitter" in this phrase alludes to the partner who does not swallow semen during or after oral sex.
