Pillar Johns are large invulnerable boulder enemies that remain stationary and can deal contact damage along with blocking Isaac's tears. They will cycle between 2 attacks periodically and in the following order:
- Summons a number of stalagmites, referred to as Little Johns, at set locations around the room which emerge out of the ground. Little Johns will remain stationary half-buried and act like obstacles that will block Isaac's tears and movement, even if he has flight, but won't deal contact damage.
- Little Johns can be blown up by explosions and will release 4 slow-moving rock projectiles in the cardinal directions if destroyed.
- Roars before slamming both fists into the ground, causing a small fissure to jut out from directly beneath Isaac's position, dealing damage to him if caught in the eruption. The fissure will remain for a short moment afterwards and will block Isaac's movement if he walks into it.
- When the fissure erupts, it can destroy any adjacent obstacles, including Little Johns.
- Afterwards, Pillar John will grunt, rescinding all current Little Johns, and summon a set of new ones, restarting the cycle.
Pillar John will deactivate once the room is cleared, and will remain in place until the Isaac leaves the room. It will not deal contact damage after deactivating. Any remaining Little Johns will burrow into the ground once the room is cleared.
Notes
- When performing its fissure attack, Pillar John's eyes and mouth will light up with fire, allowing it to be seen in dark rooms or during Curse of Darkness.
- The locations of where Little Johns spawn is determined by the room layout. They are also organized into sets that determine which specific Little Johns will appear together. A Pillar John will always cycle between different sets every time it performs the attack.
- Sets of Little Johns are grouped together by their Subtype.
