Ophiuchus is a passive item added in The Reheated Update.

Effects

• Spawns a segmented snake familiar that floats through the air over obstacles and wiggles towards enemies, dealing 0.1 damage per tick and constantly poisoning the enemy while in contact.
  • The poison deals only 50% of Isaac's damage per tick and has a very short duration after the snake stops attacking, lasting for 1 second.
  • The snake prioritizes chasing after enemies that have not currently been poisoned — once it poisons one enemy, it will move towards another that is closest to it, and so on.

Interactions

• BFFS!: The damage of the poison dealt by the snake familiar is doubled, dealing 100% of Isaac's damage per tick.

Trivia

• Ophiuchus is a constellation. Its name means "serpent-bearer" and it is often represented as a man grasping a snake.
• This item is a reference to the Homestuck character Caliborn, who is associated with the zodiac symbol of Ophiuchus.
  • This also explains the red patterned cheeks Isaac gets with the item, as they are a main characteristic of the character — with The Forgotten, this is taken even further by turning The Forgotten's skull green and giving them a candy corn tooth, similar to Caliborn's appearance after Act 6 Intermission 4.
