Toy Camera is an active item added in The Reheated Update.

Effects

  • On use, Isaac holds the Toy Camera above his head. Pressing the shoot keys in any of the 4 directions will create a rectangular-shaped flash a short distance away from Isaac in the chosen direction.
    • If any enemies are caught in the flash, they will become confused for 4 seconds. If there were at least 4 enemies caught in the flash, a Cool Photo.png Cool Photo will spawn.
    • If any enemy projectiles or creep puddles are caught in the flash, they will be destroyed.
    • If Isaac is caught in his own flash, he will gain a temporary tears up that fades away over the course of 4 seconds.

Notes

  • A Cool Photo.png Cool Photo can be spawned only once per room.
  • Toy Camera's flash can briefly light up the room for half of a second if the room is under the effect of Curse of Darkness.

Interactions

  • Car Battery.png Car Battery / Eternal Car Battery Eternal Car Battery: Creates additional camera flashes next to each other, making it easier to target groups of enemies.
  • JudasCoopIcon.png Judas + Birthright.png Birthright: Enemies caught in the Toy Camera's flash take damage, equivalent to Judas's damage multiplied by the total number of enemies caught in the flash.

Trivia

  • This item is likely a reference to the camera of the character Aya from the game Touhou 9.5 Bunkachou ~ Shoot the Bullet, as both share the tear-deleting mechanic.
  • If the Toy Camera flash does not hit any targets, there's a 1/100,000 chance to play a voice clip, saying "You missed that one, try another!"
    • This voice clip originates from the live-action laserdisc arcade game Mad Dog McCree — a quote which later became popularized into a catchphrase after an iconic moment in Twitch streamer Jerma985's play-through of the game.[1]
  • Flashing WhispersIcon.png The Whispers with the Toy Camera will reveal a secret 4th ghost in the center of the trio, that appears to have a small, blushing face.
    • This could be reference to the easter egg in the game Spelunky, where using the Camera on The Ghost causes it to make a cute pose.
