Grappling Hook is an active item added in The Reheated Update.
Effects
- On use, Isaac holds the Grappling Hook above his head. Pressing and holding the shoot keys in any direction will launch a grappling hook connected to Isaac with a tether, the length determined by how long the buttons are held. Once the hook lands in the wall or the ground, Isaac will be reeled towards the hook's location.
- The hook can be thrown over obstacles and will allow Isaac to travel over Rocks and pits, even if he does not have flight. This includes being able to walk on top of Rocks if he is released on top of them, as if they were solid ground. However, being released over a pit will have Isaac fall into it, similar to a Pitfall, causing Isaac to take damage and be released back onto the nearest safe surface.
- Isaac is immune to damage from all sources while being reeled in by the hook, with the exception of Blood Donation Machines, Devil Beggars, and similar self-damage Item effects. Any enemies that collide with Isaac while he is in this state will also take damage equal to Isaac's damage stat.
Notes
- The player can continue to hold the shoot buttons after the hook lands, allowing Isaac to walk and position himself freely for as long as it is held. Releasing the shoot buttons will reel Isaac in.
- Using the Active Item again at any time after the hook is thrown will cause the grappling hook to be reeled back towards Isaac. This will also stop Isaac if he is currently being reeled in.
- The grappling hook can be thrown diagonally if two of the shoot buttons are pressed at the exact same time. This is made easier if mouse control is enabled, and can throw the hook in any direction within 360°.
- The grappling hook does not do anything when thrown at enemies, instead passing through them — it is not to be confused with Sanguine Hook.
- Reeling in with the Grappling Hook can be used to enter Curse Room doors and open Spiked Chests without taking damage.
- Grappling Hook cannot be used to travel over Pillars and Fire Pots, the hook will instead be stopped as if it hit a wall.
- If Isaac is standing on top of a Rock, tears he shoots will typically be blocked immediately by the rocks, unless he has spectral tear effects.
Interactions
- Analog Stick: Allows the hook to be thrown in the diagonal directions as well.
- 'M: Rerolling Grappling Hook immediately after it's used will give Isaac permanent flight.
- This will not take effect in a Crawl Space.
Trivia
- Grappling Hook was originally from the Happy Items Pack MOD.
