Isaac.chr is a passive item added in The Spitshine Update.
Effects
- Upon dying, destroys the Item and respawns Isaac in the current room with randomized stats, a random amount of Hearts and Red Heart containers in the Health bar, and replaces up to 1/5 of Isaac's held Collectibles into glitched items, like those from TMTRAINER.
Notes
- The random Hearts that can appear in the Health bar after reviving can include:
- 0-3 Red Hearts
- 0-2 Soul Hearts
- 0-2 Black Hearts
- 0-2 Gold Hearts
- 0-2 Bone Hearts
- 0-3 Rotten Hearts
- 0-2 Immoral Heart
- 0-2 Morbid Hearts
- Adding or removing up to 2 Red Heart containers, but never removing all of them.
- If Isaac has no Red Heart containers when dying, he will be given at least 1. Isaac will always be left with at least half a Red Heart of health — or half of a Soul Heart if playing a character that cannot have Red Heart containers.
- The randomized stats after respawning is a random multiplier ranging from 0.5× to 2.0× that is distributed to Isaac's damage, tears, range, and speed, behaving identically to D8.
- Isaac.chr will never replace "quest" items when reviving. This includes: The Polaroid, The Negative, Key Piece 1, Key Piece 2, Knife Piece 1, Knife Piece 2, and Dad's Note.
- Certain "glitch" themed items will also not be replaced, which includes: TMTRAINER, Missing No., Undefined, Dataminer, GB Bug, Glitched Crown, Wrong Warp, Nil Pasta, and copies of Isaac.chr itself.
- If Isaac has no other items to replace when respawning with Isaac.chr, one glitched item will be given to him.
- When Isaac respawns with Isaac.chr, it will create a random amount of various glitchy clones of Isaac on the screen in different animation loops. These can't be interacted with and will disappear when leaving the room.
- Additionally, the currently playing music will fade out after respawning. The silence will remain until another music track plays.
Trivia
- Isaac.chr was originally unused in the initial release of The Reheated Update.
- Isaac.chr is a reference to the 2017 visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club. The item sprite is based directly on image that appears when Monika's character file (monika.chr) is converted to a PNG file, while the costume resembles Monika's jumpscare when she is being recorded near the end of the novel.
