Bacon Grease is a passive item added in the initial release of Fiend Folio.

Effects

• +1 empty Red Heart container, and removes one other Red Heart from Isaac's health bar.
• +0.15 shot speed.

Notes

• Bacon Grease will not remove all of Isaac's Red Hearts — it will always leave behind at least one Half Red Heart in his health bar.
  • The item will grant a Half Red Heart if Isaac had only Soul Hearts or Black Hearts.
• If Isaac picks up Bacon Grease if his entire health bar is completely filled with Red Heart containers, it will empty only one of them.

Interactions

• Adrenaline: The two readily empty heart containers Bacon Grease provides feed into Adrenaline's damage buff.
• The Deluxe: While holding The Deluxe, picking up Bacon Grease changes its effect to fully heal all of Isaac's Red Heart containers instead of emptying them.
• ??? / Tainted ??? / Tainted Forgotten / Tainted Bethany: Bacon Grease simply grants one Soul Heart, as they cannot have Red Hearts.
• Fiend: Grants one Immoral Heart.
• Dark Judas / Tainted Judas / Tainted Fiend: Grants one Black Heart.
• Tainted Bethany: Grants 1 Blood Charge.
• Keeper: Since Keeper can't have more than 3 Coin Hearts, Bacon Grease will empty 1 of them, and adds an empty Coin Heart container when obtained while having less than 3 containers.
  • Tainted Keeper: Acts the same, but cannot make Tainted Keeper have more than 2 Coin Heart containers.
• The Forgotten: Bacon Grease works like expected while picked up by the skeleton, granting an empty Bone Heart and emptying one of The Forgotten's other Bone Hearts.
  • If picked up while switched to The Soul, it will grant one Soul Heart, but will also remove a Half Red Heart from one of The Forgotten's Bone Hearts.

Trivia

• The effect of Bacon Grease, as well as its flavor text are puns on the fact that bacon only has caloric value and almost no actual mineral value.
• Prior to V2.1.2, Bacon Grease's effect did not include a shot speed up.
  • The "shot speed up" effect was instead "shop speed up", and increased your speed while in a shop. This was probably removed due to players assuming it was a typo.
