Chaldean Axe is a passive item added in the Reheated update.

Effects

  • Isaac periodically throws an axe projectile at the nearest enemy, flying forwards a short distance before accelerating backwards, where it will fly off-screen.
    • The axe deals 1.5× Isaac's damage every 1/6th of a second to enemies.
      • The damage of the axe cannot go below 2, or above 20.
    • The axe has a cool-down of 5 seconds before another one can be thrown.
    • The axe will pierce through all enemies they hit, as well as ignoring walls and obstacles.

Notes

  • The axe has a set range independent from Isaac's range, and may not always hit the enemy they're targeting if it's outside of its range.
  • The axe is not affected by Isaac's tear effects or tear replacements.

Interactions

  • BastardCoopIcon.png The Bastard: While in his split form, each minion can separately throw an axe projectile.

Trivia

  • Chaldean Axe is based on various translations from the excerpt Jeremiah 46:22 from The Bible, describing the Egyptian army's downfall against the kingdom of Babylon's forces as "they (came) against (Egypt) with axes, like men who cut down trees".
    • Chaldean Axe's name is also partly a reference to Chaldea, a country in the Arabian Peninsula that existed between the late 10th or early 9th and mid-6th centuries BCE, after which the country and its people were absorbed and assimilated into the indigenous population of Babylonia.
      • In some older translations of Hebrew books in the Old Testament and the Bible, "Chaldean" was a misnomer used to describe people that spoken Aramaic languages in the ancient region of Syria and Iraq during the Babylonian period, and some descriptions of the Chaldeans presented them as a war-like nomadic tribe of people that lived in southern Babylonia.
  • The axe's appearance is based on a scene from the movie Shrek 2, when Prince Charming and the Fairy Godmother orders a "Medieval Meal" from the fictional restaurant "Friar's Fat Boy" that comes with a similar-looking axe "toy".[1]
  • Isaac's appearance when he has Chaldean Axe is a reference to the Viking Helmet cosmetic item that was from the online MMO, Club Penguin.
  • The thrown axe's behavior is based on the Cross weapon from the roguelike Vampire Survivors.
