Clutch's Curse is a passive item added in The Reheated Update.
Effects
- Spawns a
Clutch familiar that follows Isaac, and will occasionally possess him after around 8 seconds.
- There is a chance for some
Rocks in rooms to glow purple. These rocks will create lines of purple fire in each of the 4 cardinal directions upon being destroyed. The flames can harm Isaac as well as enemies.
Notes
- The Clutch's Curse familiar will deal 1 contact damage every 1/3rd of a second to enemies.
- The Clutch's Curse familiar will make a growling sound and change its expression to indicate when it's about to possess Isaac.
- The purple
Ipecac tear will not be affected by item effects that replace Isaac's tears, such as
Brimstone or
Mom's Knife. Normal tear effects will still apply.
- If Isaac has multiple copies of Clutch's Curse, then all familiars will possess him at the same time. Isaac will shoot an additional
Ipecac tear for every familiar possessing him, up to a maximum of 7 tears in total.
- The Clutch's Curse familiar can be charmed by
The Siren, even while it is possessing Isaac. If it is charmed while possessing Isaac, it will cause him to take damage. The familiar will not possess anyone while charmed.
Interactions
BFFS!: Doubles the damage of the homing Ipecac tear. Also increases the Clutch's Curse familiar's contact damage to 2 per tick.
Forgotten Lullaby: Reduces the time it takes before the Clutch familiar will begin to possess Isaac to 4 seconds.
Trivia
- This item was inspired by a bug during Fiend Folio's development that caused rocks in
Ashpit to become purple. This bug was lovingly named "Clutch's Curse", and was later found out to actually be caused by the
Clutch boss himself, due to a strange interaction with
Clickety Clashes.
- The item's flavor text is a reference to a bit on The Eric Andre Show, where Eric Andre plays a game called "What If It Was Purple?".[1]
- The Clutch's Curse familiar will laugh if Isaac dies.
