A.V.G.M.

A.V.G.M. is an active item added in The Reheated Update.

Effects

  • On each use, switches 'on' and 'off' the lighting in the room, with the 'off' state applying a filter similar to the one used by Curse of Darkness.
  • Spawns a reward, usually a Penny.png Penny, whenever A.V.G.M. is used, with the amount of uses needed to spawn another reward doubling each time.
    • The calculation for the number of uses required between rewards is (r + 1) × 2, with r being the amount of pickups spawned by A.V.G.M. so far.
    • After being used for a long enough amount of times, a "prestige" target will be hit, and cause A.V.G.M. to spawn an item pedestal from the current room's item pool. After spawning an item from hitting prestige, r will be set to 0, resetting the interval of times A.V.G.M. is needed to be used to spawn a pickup.
      • The number of total uses needed to hit prestige increases with each level, going from 10,212, 22,450, 49,148, and 107,175 total times. After the 4th level of prestige, the number of uses needed to hit the target will continue to increase exponentially from then on.
    • While r < 40 (ie. less than 40 rewards have been spawned, which is equivalent to A.V.G.M. being used 82 times), the spawned pickup has a 1/10 chance to be replaced by any kind of other pickup (Key.png Keys, Bomb.png Bombs, Brown Chest.png Chests, etc.). After being used 82 times, A.V.G.M. will only spawn Pennies until a prestige target has been hit.

Notes

  • The darkness effect created by A.V.G.M. being in the "off" state is purely cosmetic, and is not considered a curse effect by the game.
  • If there are multiple copies of A.V.G.M., each one will share the same counter used for determining when to spawn a reward.

Interactions

  • Black Candle.png Black Candle: No effect, since the dark filter is purely cosmetic.
  • Car Battery.png Car Battery: No effect on the amount of rewards spawned, nor the amount of uses needed to drop a reward.
  • Book of Virtues.png Book of Virtues: Spawns a white coin wisp every time a pickup reward is created, which behaves like a regular Book of Virtues wisp. When A.V.G.M.'s "prestige" target is hit and spawns an item, a Lemegeton.png Lemegeton wisp will be spawned as well.
  • Abyss.png Abyss: Absorbing A.V.G.M. spawns an Abyss Locust that acts as a passive form of A.V.G.M. — when the locust flies into a wall or enemy, it switches between white and dark grey, making a small 'click' noise. When turning from grey to white, will spawn a coin or random pickup, with the number of times needed to spawn a reward increasing each time.
  • JudasCoopIcon.png Judas + Birthright.png Birthright: Activates The Book of Belial.png The Book of Belial's effect for every time a reward is spawned. Can be stacked multiple times in a single room for (theoretically) infinite damage.

Trivia

  • A.V.G.M. is a reference to the flash game of the same name made by Edmund Mcmillen.
  • In the files, there is an unused sprite of A.V.G.M. in an 'off' or 'flipped' state.
  • A.V.G.M. originates from a mod for Afterbirth+ of the same name, which has been made by few of the developers of Fiend Folio and The Devil's Harvest.
