Rocks and Blocks are the most prominent obstacles used in rooms in The Binding of Isaac. They primarily function to interrupt and influence Isaac's movement, and/or the movement of his enemies.
This article is about the Rocks and Blocks added in Fiend Folio. For the vanilla page on Rocks, go here. For Blocks, go here
Rubber Rock
Rubber Rocks are Rocks that act as bouncy obstacles, forcefully knocking Isaac away if he walks into them, even if he is flying. Projectiles from both Isaac and enemies that make contact with a Rubber Rock will also be repelled away, similarly to the
Rubber Cement effect. Enemies themselves that make contact with a Rubber Rock will not be bounced away.
Rubber Rocks can be destroyed by explosions like regular rocks.
- When destroyed, they may drop the contents of
Urns,
Mushrooms,
Skulls,
Polyps,
Buckets, etc., based on the current floor or room type.
Flipped Bucket
Flipped Buckets are alternate variants of Bucketsfound exclusively in
Downpour and
Dross, having a chance to replace regular Buckets. When destroyed, they have the same possible drops as empty Buckets — however, based on the room layout, some Flipped Buckets may reveal a
Buckethead underneath them once the room is cleared.
- Flipped Buckets with a
Buckethead underneath them will not be picked up by
Polties.
- If a Flipped Bucket with a
Buckethead underneath them is destroyed, they will not appear when the room is cleared.
Fire Pot
Fire Pots act similarly to Pillars, blocking Isaac's movement and projectiles, and being unable to be destroyed. If Isaac gets close to one, however, the top of the Fire Pot will ignite and produce a flame, which extinguishes when Isaac moves out of range. If Isaac has flight, flying into a Fire Pot will deal damage to him.
- Fire Pots have a delay before being able to ignite when Isaac enters the room, and will not deal damage during this short period of time. They will still block movement regardless of if he is flying, however.
- Like with
Pillars, Fire Pots can still be bypassed by jumping over them with
How to Jump, which will not deal damage to Isaac.
- Fire Pots have unique appearances on some floors. All of these appearances are entirely cosmetic and have no effect on their function:
- In
Mausoleum, Fire Pots will produce a purple flame, while Fire Pots in
Gehenna will appear red.
- In
Womb,
Utero,
Scarred Womb, and
Corpse, they will appear entirely different, appearing as a fleshy sphincter that produces a bubbling geyser of blood when approached, their colors matching those of the backdrop.
- In
Bulb Rock
Bulb Rocks are Blocks found exclusively in Mines. Bulb Rocks produce an area of light around them, improving visibility, and as such are most often found in rooms with the Curse of Darkness effect. If a lit Bulb Rock is touched by Isaac or any enemies, or is hit with a projectile, all Bulb Rocks in the room will shut off temporarily, no longer emitting light; they will all turn back on again after a few seconds.
- In rooms without a Curse of Darkness effect, Bulb Rocks will instead apply a slight darkening effect to the entire room when shutting off.
