Heartache is a trinket added in The Reheated Update.
Effects
- When Isaac takes damage, adds a
Broken Heart to the health bar instead of depleting hearts.
- Broken Hearts are added to the end of the health bar, and will replace any
Soul Hearts and
Red Heart containers in the way.
- Isaac will immediately die if all slots of the health bar are completely full of Broken Hearts.
- Broken Hearts are added to the end of the health bar, and will replace any
Notes
- While gaining Broken Hearts from taking damage seems undesirable, Heartache can be used prevent damage that would otherwise be lethal at the cost of reducing Isaac's maximum health, helping him survive fights that he could have lost without the trinket.
Interactions
Trinket Multipliers: Grants additional Broken Hearts when taking damage based on number of trinket multiplier effects.
Heartbreak: Heartache's effect gains priority over Heartbreak's when blocking lethal damage. In addition, the Broken Hearts granted by Heartache feeds into Heartbreak's Damage up gained by having Broken Hearts.
Fist Full of Ash: Tinted Rocks created by Fist Full of Ash can remove the Broken Hearts granted by Heartache.
The Lost /
Tainted Lost: Grants 3 Broken Hearts when taking damage instead of 1, effectively blocking lethal damage only 3 times.
- These Broken Hearts cannot normally be seen, as The Lost's health bar is not visible.
Keeper: Keeper will die upon getting 3 Broken Hearts, as he only has 3 slots for hearts in his health bar.
Tainted Keeper: Tainted Keeper will die upon getting 2 Broken Hearts.
- These limits can be raised with
Greed's Gullet (for both Keepers) or
Birthright (for regular Keeper only).
Azurite Spindown: Using Azurite Spindown on Heartache rerolls it into
Wackey.
