Barrels are a type of destructible obstacle that create some form of explosive effect when destroyed.
Fiend Folio adds 6 new types of barrels.

TNT Barrels
Super TNT
Super TNT are variants of 
TNT most commonly found in the 
Burning Basement. They cannot be pushed, and will release a cascading cross-shaped explosion similar to that of 
Bomber Boy bombs when destroyed — with the explosions being wider horizontally than vertically.
Water TNT
Water TNT are variants of 
Movable TNT most commonly found in the Burning Basement. They can be pushed around by Isaac or other enemies that walk into them, and they create a puddle of water creep and a ring of 10 tears that damages enemies when destroyed. These can not harm Isaac.
A Water TNT's explosion will immediately destroy most sources of regular fire hazards, including 
Fire Places, 
Red Fire Places, and gunpowder.
Blue Fire Places, 
Purple Fire Places and 
White Fire Places can not be extinguished.
In addition, if certain enemies that are internally flagged as "burning" are close enough to a Water Barrel when it explodes, they will take 1/5 of their maximum HP in damage (in addition to any damage they would take from the creep and tears afterwards) and, if applicable, become extinguished. Enemies that have become extinguished will be reverted to their non-burning variant, or have their attacks become less dangerous.
- The tears and creep created by Water TNT barrels will not extinguish flames or burning enemies — they need to be within a certain radius of the barrel when it is destroyed.

Burning Enemies - Extinguishing a
Flaming Hopper will transform it back into a 
Hopper. - Extinguishing a
Flaming Gaper will transform it into a 
Gaper. - Extinguishing a
Flaming Fatty will transform it into a 
Fatty. - Extinguishing a
Crispy will transform it into a 
Skinny, but still retains the appearance of a Crispy. - Extinguishing a
Grilled Clotty will transform it back into a 
Clotty. - Extinguishing a
Fumegeist, 
Mote or 
Crucible while they are in their ignited state will revert them back to normal. - An extinguished
S'More will no longer have the ability to leave gunpowder and ignite it. - An extinguished
Mr. Flare will only shoot out 1-3 flames with their range greatly reduced.
Compost Bins
Compost Bins are a new variant of Barrel added in the Reheated update that appear anywhere throughout the game. Like TNT, hitting them with tears will cause them to take damage. When destroyed, Compost Bins create a fart, with the effects of the fart depending on the type of Compost Bin.
- Compost Bins have an approximately 1/50 chance of dropping the
Rainbow Bean when destroyed. This can happen only once per run.
Buttery Compost Bin
Buttery Compost Bins release a 
Butter Bean fart when destroyed, which knocks back Isaac, enemies and projectiles that are close enough. Enemies affected by the fart will also become briefly confused for a second.
Gassy Compost Bin
Gassy Compost Bins release a poisonous fart when destroyed, poisoning enemies within range for a few seconds. The fart can harm Isaac if he is too close.
Scented Compost Bin
Scented Compost Bin release a 
Kidney Bean fart when destroyed, charming enemies within range for a few seconds. The fart has no effect on Isaac.
Unstable Compost Bin
Unstable Compost Bins release a similar Butter Bean fart as Buttery Compost Bins, but they take much less damage to destroy, typically only requiring a single tear to break. Their knockback effect is also much more powerful, being capable of knocking Isaac back from much farther.
