Dad's Home+ is a challenge added with the initial release of Fiend Folio. In this challenge, the player starts as IsaacCoopIcon.png Isaac with Treasure Map.png Treasure Map and The Compass.png The Compass, and every enemy the player encounters will respawn in other rooms, even if they have been visited before.

  • After clearing a room and moving to another, all enemies and even bosses from the previous room will respawn in random locations, while the original inhabitants of the room will also spawn.
    • The respawned enemies appear to spawn more often near the center of the room.
    • Other entities, such as Movable TNT.png Movable TNT or Shopkeeper.png Shopkeepers will also respawn.

The goal on the left side of the HUD is shown as Mom.png Mom, but the challenge actually ends after clearing the Boss Pool Icon.png Boss Room on the second floor of Chapter 1 (BasementIcon.png Basement II, CellarIcon.png Cellar II, BurningBasementIcon.png Burning Basement II). Instead of a trophy, a strange abstract object known as the "Golden Medallion" will appear after clearing the second Boss Room. Picking the object up will complete the challenge.

Difficulty

  • The main difficulty of this challenge is the player can quickly become overwhelmed with the amount of respawning enemies; the player will very often deal with situations where it is practically impossible to survive from.
    • For instance, while traveling down a floor, the player will spawn in the middle of the room in the middle of all of the respawned enemies, almost always resulting in unavoidable damage.

Strategies

  • Several different strategies exist for this challenge, but the most important element is luck, because the difficulty of a specific run depends on how rooms will generate, which in turn can allow you to calculate how many rooms will the player need to clear before being able to travel to the next floor.
  • One of the strategies is to restart until you get a good crowd-control or AoE item, such as Tech X.png Tech X or Epic Fetus.png Epic Fetus, allowing you to clear massive hordes of enemies quickly.
  • It's advised to use the benefits of the Treasure Map.png Treasure Map and The Compass.png The Compass, as they allow you to calculate the shortest path towards Treasure Pool Icon.png Treasure Rooms or Boss Pool Icon.png Boss Rooms.
  • You can also try to rely on Super TNT.png Super TNT, as they will respawn along with other enemies, and their large explosion can be used to get rid of a large amount of enemies pretty quickly.
  • The best bosses you could encounter are BusterIcon.png Buster, MeltdownIcon.png Meltdown, Little Horn Boss.png Little Horn, and (less optimally) Pin.png Pin, since explosions they will create will harm themselves and other enemies, helping you to clear rooms more quickly.
    • Additionally, Blue Champion Larry Jr.png Larry Jr. and GeminiBoss.png Gemini will always drop a Soul Heart.png Soul Heart on death, allowing the player to accumulate health quickly.
  • A more unusual strategy is to abuse the entity limit by finding a Secret Pool Icon.png Secret Room or Shop Pool Icon.png Shop with Shopkeeper.png Shopkeepers and constantly exiting and re-entering through the door, inexplicably causing the Shopkeepers to duplicate with each room transition. Eventually, the amount of entities will hit the cap and the "oldest" entities, such as enemies encountered earlier, will stop respawning in place of more Shopkeepers.

Trivia

  • The challenge's name is a reference to a challenge in The Devil's Harvest MOD, "Dad's Home", named after an item with the same name in the MOD.
  • Another strange object in the same vein as the Golden Medallion can be found in the folder containing BattieIcon.png Battie's spritesheet in the MOD's files, referred to as the "Battie Medallion" in the file's name.
